Rod Cameron
Old Firehand
Born: Dec. 7, 1910 - Calgary, Canada (Died: Dec. 21, 1983)

Although everyone knows Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, not many people know the real prototype of that character: this virile, squinty-eyed, granite-jawed action hero, who starred in the 1943 serial "Secret Service in Darkest Africa" - the inspiration for "Raiders of the Lost Ark". The brawny Cameron began his screen career as a stand-in (for Fred MacMurray) and stuntman, then got his first real acting job in "The Old Maid" (1939) - only to see it end up on the cutting-room floor.

He went on to find steady work thereafter, swinging between small roles in A-pictures to leads in serials and B-films. He starred in the TV series "City Detective" (1953), "State Trooper" (1957-59), and "Coronado 9" (1959-60) and made headlines in 1960 by marrying his ex-mother-in-law. He only played Old Firehand once, alongside Pierre Brice as Winnetou in Alfred Vohrer's 1966 movie "Thunder at the Border", which was shot in Yugoslavia.
